About the object
A crouching horse with saddle decoration is cast on the flat upper plate. Made using a piece-mould casting process, the instrument brings animal imagery into its functional form. The horse-shaped knob is its most distinctive detail.
The detailed provenance records discovery by a local resident seeking water on 19 April 1975, followed by museum investigation and accession. Another paragraph gives 1976; this page follows the detailed record and flags the discrepancy.
